The Karnataka Renewable Energy project is located in India's Silicon Valley (situated in Bangalore) - it generates renewable energy from the collection and clean burning of waste agricultural products (such as rice husks) purchased from local farmers.  The farmers are paid for their waste, providing a new and innovative revenue stream that enriches the local community.  The waste is used to generate electricity via a biomass plant. The climate benefits from the project are twofold, the collection of waste ensures crops do not decay in the field causing methane and the project displaces electricity generation by burning fossil fuels.
